Hello Forum,

as next step I did the pre-machining of the cylinders to define the workpiece position in the cast iron piece. Especial with a complex part like this you have to do this with grate care. Remember - all 4 cylinders have to be at the correct position - in relation to each other, to the columns, the top, the bottom and the guidance support.

Do you have a receiver between the HP and LP cylinders? Wondering how you plan to accommodate it...or do you need one??

Thanks - and yes! the foundry was one importand key to archive this quality. I have sit together with this guys quite a while in front of my computer to build in all the little things that makes it "pourable". But also the todays foundry men salutes the concept from 1905 what was designed by the Kaiserliche Marine and had to be made with worse sand binders compared to todays stuff.

You'll have these finished by the end of the month!!

The receiver is internal. Have a look at this picture from my old post above.
All the big room shown here is forming the receiver.
In the center of this picture you can identify the exhaust from the HP piston valve.
The hole at the top is the inlet for the bypass to start the engine from a worth crank positions.
At the right you see the cone-shaped exhaust room coming from the LP exaust (it is not connected to the receiver of cause )

Today my friend and I machined the bottom of the first cylinder.

Even with a good mill it was quite a piece of work to find the best alignment of the workpiece and to bore all holes at the right position.

You're very lucky having access to machinery like that, alignment issues aside, that is a nice job of the rod bores.
