engine comparison opinions
What are anyones opinions experiences with Tiny Power W and M engine. 6a didn't pan out. I have an 18.5' boat with room for a 15" dia propellar, and a 30 sqft WT boiler.

The M is a good engine and the W probably is too. Tiny Power sells good quality castings with ample material for machining. I've seen their fully machined and assembled engines and they were nicely done. The W is a pretty small engine, but may be about right for an 18 foot launch. After running the Twin M, I would opt for the W twin for your application. And it's a column engine, which I think looks a little better.

Dick Small built the Chester D, a 20' rose hull, and fitted her with a "W" engine and she's still running around, operating on the second "W". I have the Chester D now. To date I haven't gotten much experience with her, but spring is upon us. Richard Small ran her at 80 psi, and given the age of the boiler I will keep the 100 psi safety valve. With higher pressure and a 30 sq ft boiler the W should be able to deal with an 18 ft boat of reasonable displacement.
