Boiler suppliers
Is there a supplier of small Blackstaff type boilers who keeps them in stock?

Re: Boiler suppliers
I would be very surprised if anyone had this type of specialty boiler "in stock".
There are several concerns who will make this boiler under contract, and that will cost $$. The scale model railroad suppliers include several makers of similar sized boilers, although typically firetube type. The antique steam automobile community can also connect you to people who would make a boiler for you. I do not think anyone would offer that boiler with a Code Stamp, and that would cost far more.

You may be able to find a supplier in the UK, as I believe the design is in the SBA's approved boiler designs packet.

Re: Boiler suppliers
Oops, sorry Ron!
I have not been following every bit of the Forum lately, so missed your post.
I have been in touch with Jack and, sadly, had to disappoint him as it is the Lune Valley type boiler that is getting ready for sale. The Blackstaff Wood only got as far as the steam generating coils. Given the current cost of shipping it is probably not sensible to sell the coils to anyone in the Americas. You could coil your own for much less cash.
What I do have and am willing to share is my version of the SBA Blackstaff Wood boiler as a CAD drawing. It is heading towards having a casing, which is not included in the official SBA drawing. Given some nudging I could finish that off and, perhaps, do a drawing of the mandrels for winding the steam generating tubes. They can be made of soft or hard wood and are effectively an exercise in large scale screw cutting for someone with a big lathe. Of course those of us who are 'chippies' rather than 'metal bashers' would probably make them by eye with a rasp...
Regards
Pete

Re: Boiler suppliers
Pete,
Just to remind you, any plans sold by SBA services limited are copyright and intended to produce one boiler only.

Re: Boiler suppliers
Dear Jack
Yes indeed, I appreciate the copyright issue. However, the casing would be my copyright since SBAS has not included that in their drawings. A big omission to my mind. My drawings would not do for building without a 'legal' copy of the SBAS drawing as they do not include any of the welding specifications nor, most importantly, the engineering assessment certification.

Re: Boiler suppliers
This is something I have never seen. How can you sell a set of drawings and then limit the times the purchaser can use them? That's like saying you can only read a book once.steamboatjack wrote:Pete,

Re: Boiler suppliers
The same stipulation(?) is given with Ray Hasbrouck plans; build one only?

Re: Boiler suppliers
I have no personal axe to grind here, the once only thing is very common for example, boat plans, computer stuff. etc.
