There is planning for a steamboat meet 2nd week of July 2014 in the Muskoka region of Ontario. we would like to get a feel of how much interest we have.

Re: New Steamboat meet
That's only about 350 miles from here. Definitely doable. And after reading "Northern Steamboats" I would really love to steam that chain.
Unfortunately we have our Mid-Michigan meet at about the same weekend in July. Not likely that any of us would head right back out, we always need a little time to heal and re$t up before another meet. And too July and August are not ideal months for steamboating with the heat. Every year, I put in on Wednesday and we wind up hauling out Saturday afternoon, as the heat just gets unbearable after three days.
I would look at the calendars on the various steam websites and try to find some open days with a few week buffer in between. In September a few around here go to Wisconsin and I go to Waterford New York for Tugboat Roundup.
I'm rambling here, but late May or early June would work for me.. GISF is in 3rd week of June.
You'd draw two or three from here.

What part of the Muskoka lakes? I have extended family in Bala I could probably stay with. Probably wouldnt tow a boat that far though. A meet in Gravenhurst with the Segwun would be neat.johnp wrote:There is planning for a steamboat meet 2nd week of July 2014 in the Muskoka region of Ontario. we would like to get a feel of how much interest we have.

Being Editor of Steamboating Magazine, I'd say that what has been mentioned for dates is pretty close to correct. We also publish a calendar in each issue for several months ahead so when you've picked a date(s), let me know and I'll get it up on our website and in the next issue.

ditto for Smokestack Magazine.
Suppose you show up at the GISF at the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY so we can talk about it. That runs from June 15 for a week. If you go make reservations early as everything fills up. There is some chatter about doing something on the Ottawa River in 2015.
