1. Steam Propulsion, Motor not turning ......................Yes
2. Motor Propulsion, Steam Engine not turning..............Yes
3. Steam turning motor, Propeller not turning..................No
4. Steam turning motor, Propeller turning also................Yes

The 2 small discs are keyed to the prop shaft. Three 1/2 inch stainless rods are keyed into the large central disc which has a galaxy bearing allowing it to slide on the prop shaft. These rods slide thru galaxy bearings in the 2 small discs. There are 3 positions. 1. all the way to the right - steam engine drives prop shaft. 2. all the way to the left - electric motor drives prop shaft. 3. Intermediate - both steam and electric are engaged. Depending on the settings on the motor controller you could either have steam plus electric or steam plus regenerative charging of batteries.
The down side of this arrangement is I am not using the excellent thrust bearing on the York - there is a pillow block trust bearing further back on the prop shaft.

I only have batteries for 1 hour on electrics - it's a steam boat after all but useful for maneuvering.

Cheers

Paul
