Is there a mathematical relationship between heating area of the boiler to the size of the engine that can be run from that boiler??
What size engine can a boiler with a heating surface of 0.29 m2 (3.12 ft) @ 80 psi working pressure?
Stuart # 1, # 5 or Hasbrouck #10???

Boiler output is generally expressed in Pounds Per Hour (PPH) steam output. For a 3 square foot firetube boiler, about 15 PPH steam production is available, a watertube boiler, about 30 PPH. These are nominal values, and if pushed with a really fierce fire, about double these outputs could be obtained.
15 to 30 PPH steam flow at 80 PSI will only allow about 1/4 horsepower output in the engines you mention. If the boiler is watertube type, and forced with an intense fire, then you might get as much as 1 horsepower output.
