Boiler position?

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

Boiler position?

Post by buffalow bill »

Hi, not sure this is in the correct place, please forgive if I’m in the wrong place!

Just another question, may be considered foolish, anyway – boiler position in a boat, how would it be to offset the boiler from the centre line to counter balance your weight when in the boat.
I’m thinking of using a wtb, transverse across the boat and the offset was to provide greater space to fire the beast.

Offsets are common on many cramped steam launches. My boat has both the boiler and engine intentionally offset. Some propeller driven launches have the engine offset several inches, apparently with no ill effects. See “A bit of HDR trickery” under Steamboat Photography section of this forum.
