Is it worth while to mount a Hypro pump with the output on the top so that air can escape and make bleeding it faster and easier?

Bart and other have their hand pumps feeding the Hypro but I'm keeping my two pumps more independent.

Also I'm considering putting one of those gas line squeeze bulbs from an outboard gas can in the suction line from the hot well for bleeding.

I looked up the manual for the Hypro pump, and there was nothing stated about pump orientation, although the manual's figures always has the pump mounted with the suction and dischatge pipes horizontal. As far as this pump having an orientation that would favor venting out the air, it appears that having the discharge connection at the top will favor venting. This is certianly better than the opposite orientation, but there is still some incertianty as to the best venting orientation, depending on the clearance spaces in the cylinder heads.

On the tug, I installed drain cocks to bleed air, once it's spitting water, just close it.

Through the advice on the forum here, I now have two engine driven feed pumps. Worked on piping them up this afternoon. If one fails, simply throw a 3-way valve and change over to the other.

Ron, is the 2 engine driven pump arrangement you have using a recirculation line for the idle pump which constantly rotates, or a drive clutch to bring a pump into service?

Fred,

One is a Hypro which will be the primary, and the other is a piston ram/eccentric which will be the auxiliary. Two different networks with each having their own bypass. Both discharges meet at the 3-way valve.
