Well, I've had the Otter in the San Juans several times, but it's a very low boat and is quite wet when the water gets frisky; short choppy waves like to come aboard due to the fine entrance at the bow - there isn't a lot of lift. Even if I wasn't hankering for longer range, we'd be looking at a more capable boat.Lopez Mike wrote: Bart is planning on solving the range issue by building a bigger boat.

Many years ago, my dad built a 22' catamaran... we spent some fun time during the summers sailing (well, a lot of drifting) this in the San Juans. It was a wet boat though, and the fortuitous combination of sun and wind were rare indeed. I'd like to have a boat that I can use most of the year there - which means shelter from the elements, capable enough to handle a bit of wind, and enough range to make Victoria, Port Townsend, etc.
