Hi Guys,

Obligatory first post. I guess I will be a watcher for some time to come. Not that I don't have the 'urge', it's more the lack of time to partake, practically, for now (too many other projects on the go ATM). I do have many ideas as to what I would like but many simply have to be pipe dreams. What I will be looking for is something that is totaly practical for my somewhat limited space, and in the mean time to learn some of the hazy ins and outs.

If you want to get a steamboat underway for minimum money $$ and minimum labor hours, there are easy ways to do this.

It is obvious to me from the start that it will have to be 'trailable' with a reasonably sized car, and not too large for storage. The only water that we have near here is a canal, and a none to celubrious one at that, but the Lakes are only a couple of hours away and there is plenty of other water in other directions. ££'s are definately a serious consideration but time less so, as I have been one of those lucky retired persons for some time.

I have taken great pride in making everything for my previous projects from 'go to whoa', but also realise that the total man hours required for something like this is massive so finding some parts ready-made or part finished will probably be a necessity rather than a luxury.

Welcome to the Forum.

If you are looking for some ideas for the low cost sensible sized steamer project, Steamboating, the magazine of the International Steam Boat Society is running a series by Chris Doughty. You might find it amusing and possibly inspiring.

If you talk to Ron, one of the elders of this Forum, who publishes the mag, I am sure he will suppy you with back issues at a sensible price.

Of course, wearing my SBA hat, joining the Association would bring you another excellent magazine and back copies with boat builds etc.

Cheers Pete and Wesley. It is my intention to join the SBA sometime soon, I picked up a copy of the Register a couple of years back at the Midland Show, and I've browsed that to pieces, so now I need a new one.

The SBA register is now on their website, although it needs updating, I believe this is in hand.

Yeah Jack, I did look at that, but somehow I prefer it in my hand, seems easier to browse. Might just be I've too slow a broadband or something.
