Funnel height ?

Post by ianrichards »

I’m assembling the funnel from stainless tube.
The main inner flue has yet to be cut to length, but the outer sleeve has already been cut to 36”.
What length should the inner be?
I have been told that is does not need to be the same length as the outer.
Advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian
assuming that you are going to fit them to the boat together as one unit then just a few inches lower than the out casing should do.

The inner fits on a stump and then the outer slides will over.
So there’ll be two separate components

My personal preference is the other way round! The inner projects an inch or two above the outer!

Well the answer seems to be , a bit higher or a bit lower, take your pick. Like most things in steamboating, very rarely is there one correct solution.

Gone for lower ... but I've kept the off-cut ... I can always Gaffa tape it back if need be ;-)
