Steam Narrowboat Benson (and any others)

Post by Dhutch »

There is an entry in the Steam Boat Register for a steam narrowboat 'Benson' being owned by a P Skehan a 'non-member' and I wondered if anyone knew the current whereabouts of this boat or what became of it?

Register Entry;
http://www.steamboatassociation.org.uk/ ... ns0079.htm

New in 1991, changed hands a few times, and in the process of a refit in 2000, not records since.

Simularly, if there are any other steam narrowboats anyone knows of in existance that I might not know about I would be interested in these also.

What about The Thrush Steamer?
Owned/assembled by Tony Bryant

Not sure if he still going around or the boat is still around.

Sort of a free spirit if you will. Still He's one of my steamboat inspirations....

Yes, I have actually seen those videos, if not the boat itself. Need to add it to the list, but like you i have no indication as to if it is still extanct.

President is the most known about steam narrowboat on the system I expect, due to being owned by the 'black county living museam' if not seen outside of the musaem very much of late.

A list of narrowboats I am aware of can be found at the below link. Benson, Sidney and Energy are the only one I have not spoken with, most I have boated on or with. The list needs updaing as Antilope was named Hasty by the time she was launched three years ago and Rador another new boat is missing. Monarch has also be reverted to Diesal power.
