Water tube boiler liner and casing.

A special section just for steam engines and boilers, as without these you may as well fit a sail.

You should be paying about $4 USD per pound for 304 stainless. In 16 gauge (0.065 thick, very near 1/16 inch thick) the weight is 2.6 pounds per square foot, a 36 inch x 36 inch piece would be around $90 USD.

I have had stainless steel assemblies made by the people who deal in, and custom fabricate, commercial kitchen equipment, counters, steam tables and such. These vendors had the lowest prices for making something out of this stainless material. They only have 304 stainless.

While 304 is not quite as good as other alloys for hi temperature, it will work just fine for our steamboat applications. The kitchen equipment fabricators also will have scraps that can be cobbled together (with MIG welding and 308 wire, or stainless screws) into a boiler inner casing fairly easily. They may also have material that is scratched and worth less to them, but fine for our applications.

That price was only for 0.030", it's well over $400 for 16ga.
Houses are but badly built boats so firmly aground you cannot think of moving them.

That's not expensive . . . . . it's horrendous! :o

I would certainly be curbing my thoughts on grade.
