I ordered plans from Tiny Power today.


Blueprints for a horizontal water-tube boiler designed in the 1940s or 50s by Charles Arnold to accompany the "M" engine. With a working pressure up to 150 PSI, it is 21" wide, 26" long and 24" high. Drawings include superheater and feed heater coils, and the boiler can be built either with or without these.

The boiler provides 30 sq. ft. of heating surface, not including the superheater or feed heater. All-welded steel construction

Has anyone built one of these? How hard are they to build? I'm thinking of going from a VFT to a WT

This is the basic design, but there is 12 total up flow elements, 6 on each side

I think you'll be quite happy with that design. Originally marketed as the "Worthington" boiler, there have been variations on it, much like on home made B&W's, Roberts', etc.

My father has one built by John York that has 100sq/ft/hs and around 30 gallons of water. With a very weak fire, we can see steam in 45 minutes. I will update times once we fire her with more like a real fire.

Will be changing the down comers to the upside down V configuration. The plans revise this, originally the water level gauge was connected to the front of the main drum and to the down comer, and with the flow of water in the down comer would give inaccurate readings.
