I got a very nice old brass gauge with my boiler. I had the guys in engineering at work check it on our gauge tester and it is reading 30 psi light. ie........0 = 30psi actual pressure. Do any of you guys work on these things, or perhaps know somebody who does ? It is an old Bourdon tupe gauge. I took the glass off and when you rotate the needle and let it go it is planting back into the zero stop with a fair degree of vigor so I think I trust my guys' assessment.

No need for a piccy Jon, I've done loads of these. As you say, first remove the glass, then very carefully and evenly prise up the needle. It sits on a tapered shaft and as soon as the taper saparates it will pop off. There is a special tool for the job but two electrical type screwdrivers, as close to the boss as you possibly can, will do it. Then apply a known pressure to the gauge and reinstall the needle on its shaft to match the pressure, and push lightly on the centre to reseat the taper. When done it is best to test it again a various pressures but usually they are fine.
