Make it! A few thoughts though. The best option for a funnel that will retain its paint well, is to have a large air gap between the inner flue and the outer funnel. In Zeltic's case, the cap is 3 inches either side of the flue. In her case its a 6 inch flue in a 12 inch funnel. The flue is stainless tube, and has lugs on it to locate it in the outer funnel. The outer funnel is aluminium, rolled in sections like a big ship funnel, and rivetted with traditionally shaped rivets. Despite being 6 feet high and 1 foot in diameter, I can carry the outer funnel around with ease. In my case, the outer funnel mounts to a flange on the deck while the inner mounts onto the smokebox itself. The flow of air between the outside world and the boiler room prevents the funnel getting very hot, although it does get reasonably warm. Not a problem for retaining the paint though.
