I have two reproduction copies of Steamboats and Modern Steam Launches on my table. One of mine and one not. Both have an all too common problem. The pages have come un-glued from the binding in great big hunks.
I understand that these were not expensively bound and I'm not upset but neither do I know anything about repairing these. That is, I can figure out how to hold them in my milling machine vise but then I'm stumped. Cylinder oil seems ill advised.
The few places that I have inquired with about repairs have mention prices somewhat higher than a new volume. Surely someone on the forum has solved this problem.

I bought a boat off of San Juan Is. When the son asked if I wanted these old books and magazines-I said "well just to help out ,I would take them" Yes you guessed it -every one ever printed! Ya snooze-ya lose!! You could have rowed there from your place!! Den . - How 'bout placing them in a three ring binder-not as nice as new binding but at least you're not chasing pages around the room!

Going back to your original problem, it occurs to me that you might find a solution at your local higher education institution. Here in the UK, the reprographics staff of my former employer used some sort of rubery glue to bind booklets for the academics and to repair library books. You may find that you could get a repair done as a "foreigner" or legitimately at a more sensible price that the commercial folk cannot match.
I have had a little play on Google and the like, but cannot turn up the sort of clue the repro team used to use. Of course that could just be my search skills...

Pete

I wonder if it was something like "Copydex" Pete? That remains very flexible once set, and could be suitable.

Being the sort of guy that always loves to try something new, I have quite a bit of book binding experience . I done everything from glue bindings to fancy hand sewn work. I would recommend this supplier ::
http://hollanders.com/ what you will want is to look under book binding supplies /adhesives there you will find acid free PVA glue. That is what you want. adhesives that are not acid free will cause discoloration and other forms of damage to the paper.
hope you find this helpful. you can also find several good demonstrations for glue binding of books on youtube.
