I have had fun playing with steam for a little while.
I enjoy the building of mechanical things and taking trips on the boat I made (from scratch).
(I did start with a Semple casting set.)
I am currently finishing up a small engine that runs as a twin or compound.
I am experimenting with various oilers.

Al- Welcome enjoyed the web site immensely .Can relate to the pictures of all the fuel on board! no place for anything else! Being born and never leaving the west coast I am amazed at the age and sites of the east. The lock systems are incredible. The great lakes areas have been populated for centuries before our side was even discovered.Whereas our waterways are natural and rugged ,yours are civilized and beautiful. It appears you can steam forever on the locks and canals. Keep in touch Den

Greetings Al!
Glad to see you are still active in steamboating. I remember reading through your account of your 1999 trip on the Erie Canal. It holds a particular interest to me as I live in Western NY only 2 blocks from the canal, in the area after it joins with Tonawanda Creek before emptying out into the Niagara River.
If you ever plan on heading all the way west to my area of the Canal, let me know. I'd love to meet with you and maybe hitch a ride for a bit. If you are still wood burning I'd gladly pay for the ride with a load of nice dry hardwood fuel!
