The Steamboating Forum

Has anyone on this forum ever travelled by boat down the Mississippi? My brother in law recently purchased a houseboat and is planning on travelling from St Louis to New Orleans. I am hoping that maybe someone will have some experience and advice he should know. He is hiring a pilot for the last stretch of the journey and has a licensed pilot for the first part.

Any suggestions?
