equiped whit a Easton&Johnson 1,5+3 X 3,5 engine and an Century Millwright 2 drum boiler.

looks a great project, I always liked the idea if this hull, no doubt fast!
I know the boiler from the previous owner, and I have a very similar one in Grayling (or I think so as its on windermere lake bed at the moment!!!!!) the engine looks good to.

Thank you for the kind words.
If I can use advice, believe me, I will call you. For me it is a great adventure, its me first steamboat. Never saled in one before. So first finished the boat and than connect al of the piping. Stil lots of work to do.
But, sorry for my Englisch, whit the bed of Windemere, do you ment your boat is on the bottum of the lake? Hope not.

I know that Piet's hull is from the plans sold by Reliable Steam Engine Co: http://www.reliablesteam.com and it looks like Rushforth is the same.

Yes Rushforth is the same hull, we had contact about it.
She is only a little wider.

Nope ....did mine the hard way....

Started with a lofted drawing from Rollie Evans....at 25' x 4'6"

Then I did all the stability studies, and decided to increase the beam to 5' which doubled her righting moment....very stable she is

I have a bit more curve in the forward sections below the chine and I don't have flare in the stern as mine is plumb....I have a bit more freeboard I think....but very similar.


Now I know Rollie is friends with Carl......soooooooooooooooo....you be the judge

Yes she really looks lovely.

I too am looking for some more photos of the coaming and how you finish it. Clearly the curved ends are laminated ply, but the straighter bits may be solid or ply - not sure which.

The big question (for me at least) is how to cap the coaming. As ever your suggestions and advice will be welcomed.

Hi Pete,

Depends ....

Just a rounded top, you can do with a router after you put the coaming in.

You make up a sled and mount the router to it in the horizontal position, then just go around the coaming with sled on the deck and trim the coaming to height. Then put a round over bit in and go from there.

OR

Some coamings are capped. That's best done IMHO, as a lamination followed up with milling using a router as described above. Though some milling before laminating would seem desirable.

There is a great book by an English chap Nicolson, don't have it to hand in my,,,uhhum LIbrary at the moment, but I do have it and recommend it highly.
