Model Electrics Problem

Hello everybody,
I am in the process of constructing a model steamboat. I have a toy R/C boat I want to rob the electric servo off so I can control my rudder on my steamboat through R/C. So far I have taken the battery pack and servo off the toy boat. I will use the existing remote from the toy to control the rudder. On the battery pack there are three ports for electric plug ins. I unplugged the motor and left the on/off switch and the servo plugged. When I try to operate the servo it won't work. Does this have something to do with the open port where the motor plug was? If anybody has any advice for my issue please let me know.
Thanks,
Will

I'm sure there will be someone on here with suitable experience but if not, any hobby shop will be able to sort it out quickly.

Hi Will,

i think you have a special RC-Unit that will only run with all servos connected to the central block. Offer some pics of the RC-system, so it will be easy to identify the componets because there ale a lot of systems-

Besides the battery pack and the servo you need the receiver as well. Without that the transmitter cannot get a signal to the servo.

Thanks everyone. The antenna is hooked up so the radio should be getting a signal. I think Dietrich is right that it will only function if all servos are plugged in. I will try to upload a picture soon.
