John Winn Vee Twin Plans

I have a full set of color printed plans from an engine that John Winn, a modern British steam engine designer and builder of new reciprocating steam engines designed and made at least one of . I have one of his engines in my possession that was on his Chimera II.

I am not a skilled enough machinist right now to do it myself, but I asked John and he is fine with sharing the plans for free to anyone interested.

First one who PMs me I will send you the printed plans for free. I will digitize the plans and make them available here or linked from here for anyone else.

Thank you so much, CB.

These are metric drawings! It makes my day! :D

After a quick overview, I noticed that the size of the lands between the ports is missing from the cylinder drawings (not that critical). By the way, they should be 6.2 mm large.

Thanks from me too CB. I downloaded them last night, and had a preliminary look at them: I have no intention of following the design, but some of the details could be useful, and one can always learn something or other from looking at other people's plans - assuming they refer to an engine that actually worked!

Yes, that's their reputation, and if you look at the plans, they look "designed to work" rather than follow past practice too slavishly. His use of Dural plate where appropriate, and commercial ball/roller races looks admirable to me.

Remember at least one of this particular engine was made and used on Chimera.

Problem is I think John likes designing and building engines so much that he changes them every few years. :)

I had my steam mentor (steam traction guy) look at the single cylinder engine I bought from John and he told me - "Don't ever sell that engine. If you do, you will regret it later."
