Since my epoxy in the bilge STILL isn't dry, I GUESS it's just getting too cold at night OR I mixed up 2 batches of resin and no hardener I got around to finishing the Boiler. Now there is a lamp and a strip of Flexwatt heating the resin so MAYBE tomorrow it'll be set up, 70 degrees during the day but into 30's at night. So some pix of the finished product, but now the original stack looks too tall, maybe in the boat with the canopy on it'll be ok, it's pretty heavy though..... hmm carbon fibre stack?? cheers rp

I like it!
How did you bend the brass around the 90 degree from the top of the boiler to the side?
I wanted to do this on Nyitra's boiler...

P.S. That's not clearly not a 90, I meant 45 degrees.

Lovely boiler, Ron. Beautiful cladding job.
I especially like the 4 try cocks arrangement and the look of your manometer.

Good luck with the epoxy setting Ron: it really doesn't like getting cold (say's he, coming from a relatively cool climate), but you'll probably be OK given time.

The brass is silver soldered together, no way could I bend it like that.... maybe I NEED an English wheel. The smoke hood is steel with an inch of insulation above that and the brass was formed over the steel. I cut a piece of cardboard to fit and cut the brass to copy that, the corners are soldered with small pieces of brass to hold it together. and some filing made it look good. And as far as the epoxy goes, I dug out the stuff that REFUSED to harden, cleaned it all out with acetone and wire brushed it back down to wood, and went to the hardware store and got a small lectric heater, getting COLD tonight! New layers are setting up already, maybe good! cheers rp

Ultra Violet light can also help epoxy to set. Just leave it out in bright sunlight (even if it is cold).

I have to learn how to do this. I have soldered electronics and I oxy-acetyl weld - that should be somewhere in the middle!
Nyitra's boiler is a wider at the firebox so I have a ledge that doesn't have a transition in the mahogany so the insulation can get wet(ceramic blanket).
Again great job!

Ron,
That looks awesome! I like how you hid some of the plumbing underneath the cladding... Clever
Are those Stanley valve handles I spy as well?
I know the old boiler is probably languishing away in the background, covered on oxy-acetylene equipment and Lotus parts, but it would be an interesting comparison to have the two side-by side.
I can't wait to see what the performance will be like now!
