Where to buy pressure gauges in the UK?

I need a replace one of the pressure gauges on the boat and am struggling to find somewhere that will sell be something I want to buy.

So far I have found a 4" gauge on IBHS for £60 and a 2" gauge on Macc models both of which appear to have no mountings, and pressure gauge .co.uk that doesnt seam to have any prices at all. The current gauge is I think 3" and flange mounted. Its actually front-flange mounted, and side entry, but currently I would settle for a compromise!

To read in PSI (or PSI+Bar) up to 300psi (or 250) and to be brass, if cheap plated/spun brass. Not really after anything vintage looking, as period for us is 1991....

Dear Daniel ,

Do really mean 300 bar or should you have typed 300 psi ? I would have thought that at 300 bar you'd get Emily Anne onto the plane .
If it's only a 300psi gauge that you need I have a Reeves 0-300psi back flanged gauge that might suit.

All regards Edward

Yes, sorry, post corrected.

The described gauge might just be excellent, what sort of diameter is it? Photograph?

are you an SBA member? I'm pretty sure there are advertisements in Funnel magazine for suppliers with what you want...

The SM gauge company (www.pressuregauge.co.uk) are very good as you get exactly what you need.
They are expensive though, expect to pay £150 plus for a brass gauge.

Some folks use gauges from the local welding supply. Acetylene gauges are about right and some have brass bodies to eliminate sparks.

Like these.

Hello Daniel ,

I'm obviously undercharging you !!!
For the benefit of other forum users not privy to the messages which have passed between Daniel and me I have a gauge which meets his requirements and I am selling it to him , but looking at Steamboatjack's post I am clearly not charging anything like enough.

Regards Edward.

Any pressure gauge that has the range you want should work just fine as long you use a steam siphon below it inline.

Sometimes I have seen a cut off valve inline, in case something with the gauge breaks. Might not be a bad idea for an antique gauge.

Other then that it's mostly aesthetics and mounting/fitting issues.

I don't know the UK codes for steam or what is acceptable there.

For my 200 PSI ~ 14 bar boiler I'm going to have two gauges. One modern, and one sort of antique gauge. The "antique" gauge for my is a robust gauge that was probably used in and industrial/commercial application and has I look I like and I have tested it under steam and appears to read true.

In the end a pressure gauge is important, but a properly working safety/relief valve is your true gauge and one of the most important steam devices on your boat that should be working correctly.

Live Steam Models have a back-flanged 3" for £50 on page 37 of their online catalogue (150psi or 400psi)

Folks
There are many gauges on the market but many are of dubious quality, If this is for the principle gauge on a steam boiler, then it should be of good quality. The best UK make was probably Budenberg but there are others (Hopkinson, Buchanan. Sydney Smith etc.)
Basically if the maker cannot put their name on it, I would suspect its quality.
I have no connection with SM gauge but have used their products.
