Canopy height?

Ron explained retractable canopies under the "For Sale" section & it sounds like a fine idea. Unfortunately the canopy advertised is too large for my boat.
Is there a formula for the height of the canopy in relation to the length & width of the hull. I am afraid a canopy that would look correct on my small 16' boat would be too low to enter the boat without difficulty.
