Did you see the big sidewheeler with the Beam engine?

Yes, the beam engines are a favorite for me. And were a favorite for the public in the late 19th Century and beyond. Seems that the visible walking beam was wanted by the public, and this type of engine, generally a simple single expansion low speed engine, was produced numerous times long after it had become obsolete in terms of efficiency and tecnology. I will never forget my first ride on a sidewheeler in Italy, a more modern triple expansion diagonal engined excursion steamer with articulated wheels. Built 1926, still in service I think. Concordia, on Lake Como.
