I used to flame polish the ends but the tubing I've been buying has a stripe down the inside and I suspect that the heat would screw it up.
Today I went for a test run. I've been having some issues with the hot well filling up. The float valve wasn't holding at pressures above about 100 psi. I found some water in the copper float. Drove it out and re-soldered. Extended the float arm by 50 percent. Now the level is so constant that there is a scum mark on the glass and in two hours of giving rides and harrassing tourists with the whistle, the level never moved at all.
Eventually I'll change over to a reflex glass anyway. End of issues.
