Sacramento Delta Steam boat meet
Re: Sacramento Delta Steam boat meet
Nice video Keith... I really like that little red compound... I hear the guy that owns that boat is a nutcase though.

Re: Sacramento Delta Steam boat meet
Yeah, he is a bit on the fringe and rather blind to boot!!...lol
I had wanted to get more video of the other engines running, but spent too much time visiting and having fun. Maybe next year.

Very good video.
Though next time, use a badger on the mic. Little cameras are awful for amplifying the high pitched sounds and making a decent engine sound terrible.
There were more boats there than I thought at first.

I've got the vehicle, just need the boat.

Sorry I stole all of your time away. It was fun visiting, even if I could only make out your face to be a blurry shape.

Wes,
You didn't steal my time away, really enjoyed my time aboard "Wayward Bell" and our chats. Isn't that what the meet is all about?!

Re: Sacramento Delta Steam boat meet
The beautiful paddle boat in question is the Cheng Tse built over a period of 20 years by Al Dunlap of Spokane, Washington. Al started while an employee of TWA airlines. He designed the hull, created all the woodword and glass himself and built the engine and all mechanicals. The boiler was built by Don Mentzer of Medford, Oregon as were 100+/- boilers found in steamboats around the US.
The cabin contains a head and kitchen complete with steam circulating through the sink for warm wash water. Al and his wife Sue rarely miss any steamboat gig on the west coast and he claims about 10,000 miles a year on his hauler just transporting this wonderful 34 footer around. They have slep aboard and hosted lunches aboard the boat.
If you want a ride, just show up at any steamboat event listed on the NWSS calendar and Al and Sue will be there. Al always eager to give a ride, and Sue always at the ready with snacks.

For shame daysaver1 GALLEY is where the food preparation, etc. is performed aboard anything that floats
