Re: Tube square footage
My intent was for a water tube boiler, but couldn't remember what the original thread I'd read concerned. I was trying to get a "General" idea of the length of tubing that would be required. As for stainless steel, thanks for the info concerning ASME code. The idea of using SS came from a ...

Tube square footage
I've been searching for an older post concerning the "Thumb Rule" for piping/tubing square feet per desired HP with no luck. Wondered if someone could post info here or post the link to the thread ? A couple things I don't recall being pointed out in the thread discussion: 1. Does material...

Anyone know what this is ???
Found this Ad on craigslist for steam engine and boiler. Pictures of engine, but not boiler.

Re: Larger Size Engine Cstings
I'm kind of curious if anyone on this forum has tried making their own castings ? I've taken up metalworking as a hobby and have contempalated setting up to do small castings to recycle metal instead of buying it all the time. I know cast iron and othe hard metals are out of the range of small hobby...

Re: Bitten by the Steam Bug in west, central Illinois USA
Thanks everyone, I've found a few things scrounging the internet including the boat picture fredrosse posted. Not yet used to the search feature here so finding threads about engine and boiler sizing hasn't turned up much yet. Mike Cole, thanks for the link to the SBA site. I'll look and see if I ca...

Re: Bitten by the Steam Bug in west, central Illinois USA
Not necessarily, just more of a different style. Thinking of building one with a classic riverboat look. Found some info on building flat bottom boats. Thinking 8'-10' wide by 20'-24' long, but don't want to get the cart before the horse. Figure I'd better look into engines and boilers before buildi...

Re: Bitten by the Steam Bug in west, central Illinois USA
Just wondering if anyone knows of a group, club, or event in my general area ? I understand how steam engines work, but finding it difficult to find sources for engines, boilers, pumps, etc. Haven't found any sort of guide for sizing requirements to more ideally match boiler to engine or engine(s) t...
