Re: SBA Blackstaff Boiler, steam output.

Yes thx Wesley I am familiar with PLAN/33,000.
I didn't write the question very clearly, I wanted to check the cylinder volume ratios on a compound for a specific steam pressure, and can't find the formula on the net.

Re: SBA Blackstaff Boiler, steam output.

Thanks Fred, I didn't see those FAQ's.... The screen on the old 4S iPhone is pretty small (and my only Internet access). Is their anything on the forum for calculating the proportion/volume of compound cylinders, re steam pressure (different HP LP cylinder volumes for different steam supply pressure...

Re: Monotube Boiler Design – Radical Thinking

[quote="dhic001"]Monotubes aren't that hard provided you have good fire control, which really means liquid fuel rather than solid. The trick is to have a variable stroke set up on the engine driven feed pump to allow it to be set perfectly to match the demand of the engine. Once it has bee...

Re: SBA Blackstaff Boiler, steam output.

Thanks for your replies Dietrich and Cyberbadger, I am old school and looking for pound/hour output. In hind sight perhaps I should have at least introduced myself, (some of you may know) I have been interested in building a boat for a number of years but due to ill health the steam boat got shelved...

SBA Blackstaff Boiler, steam output.

Hi All, Can someone possibly confirm the steam output of the SBA Blackstaff boiler.? I have read, 5 pound/hr unforced, and 10 pounds/hour forced, and I have also read comments questioning the figures :) so I am not sure . (I bought the plans a couple of years ago). To force the boiler when required ...

Re: Taylor engine castings

Yes Mike I understand and agree with all you have said, and one can never give too much information :) The power output from the piston to the end of the crank is obviously reliant on how the engine is engineered/designed (and the build accuracy) , assuming that both of these are done within good pr...

Re: Taylor engine castings

Hi Jack, Yes, with not a great deal to choose from in the way of available castings, it would be good for all steam boaters to have another option to power their boats. Might even see more boats around if their were more engine options :) I have been slow replying as I have passed the plans (below t...

Re: A.A.Leak Construction Manual

Hi there, You may not be aware that the "book" was reprinted from a construction series in the "Model Engineering Magazine" entitled " A Compound Marine Engine" by A. A. Leak. To give you some idea when the articles were written.. Part 1 article, last page was pg 476 ( ...

Re: Taylor engine castings

Jack, Its good news that the Taylor Engines will be a available. Do you have any idea which engines the SBA plan to sell castings for.? I have had a good look on the net & can't find castings available for a 4" x 4" single, & looking at the SBA Register by Engine Design, the Taylor...
