Re: Newbie now has hull for "just an engine"
Hi Mike Hot Well !! What that ??? Not in the index of the SBA Steamboating Guide. Probably not a means of having an onboard hot tub. Is it for use with a condenser? My thinking at present is top keep things simple and not condense of this time. It might be a good idea to leave appropriate space if I...

Re: Newbie now has hull for "just an engine" now little prog
Hi All Not made much progress with the steamboat. It has been as low as -6 oC in the workshop! The situation at present is that I have hull and engine. On the look out for a prop with larger pitch than the one I have. The last big item is a boiler, which has got me doing layouts. I realised that I h...

Re: Newbie now has hull for "just an engine"
Hi All Happy New Year. Thank you for your further input. Bart I will probably put it together with what I have, but keep on the look out for a bigger pitch prop. Fredrosse The Javelin is a nice looking hull, I assume you have the iron keel version. Similar weight and dimensions to Drascombe Dabber. ...

Re: Newbie now has hull for "just an engine"
Not sure if the photo is showing for everybody. Some more feedback would be useful. Have now measured prop angle. So from table above the prop is 13" dia. x 10" pitch, RH. The DAR is approx. 0.2. Any comments on its suitability with a Stuart 5a (2.25" x 2" stroke single cylinder)...

Newbie now has hull for "just an engine"
Hi All Thanks for the welcome and advice from my earlier post. Just shoe horned a hull into the workshop following a 350 mile trailer pull from Falmouth. Long day! The hull I believe is a 15ft 6in Drascombe Dabber Launch. Only a few Dabbers made as launch version. Originally fitted with a Watermota ...

Re: Newbie with just an Engine
Thanks Mikes, both
Having looked in the SBA members area it would seem my postcode is classed as West Midlands. I have made W Midlands my main region, with Wales secondary. Reversing the original order. An email is on its way to Stephen Milns.

Re: Newbie with just an Engine
Thanks Mike and Phil The FAQ area is full of useful info, and is helping increase my understanding. I have added my location as North Wales. Everywhere in the UK is a bit of a trek, when heading south I often drive to Chirk and take the train. The MMEE has a shuttle bus from Leamington Spa Station t...

Re: Newbie with just an Engine
Thanks to all for your welcome. I should have given my location. Which for Mike Rometer from Middle Earth is on the mountains within Mirkwood. Close to The Elvenkings Hall and Esgaroth on the long lake, with a view of Erebor (the lonely mountain). Which when moved to North Wales is on the mountainsi...

Newbie with just an Engine
May I introduce myself. I met Richard Harvard on the SBA stall at the Midlands Model Engineering Exhibition in October. He sold me a Steamboating Guide and kindly threw in some back issues of Funnel. It seems my project for 2017 is to build a steamboat! Progress so far is the purchase of a Stuart Tu...
