It sounds like the shorter the pipe - or perhaps the thinner the less the waste.

It's 1/2NPT and it works it way down to 3/8NPT right now. But it is pretty long. I'm going to try that and see.

And yes, it will be a general purpose pump onboard. Haven't done the water side but there will be a valve to divert the water to a hose for cleaning/fire fighting.

For my purposes it can be extremely inefficient and still be very useful. Nyitra is suited for two crew, but I've done both my self and flown the drone at the same time. That's a bit much. The helm and wheel have allowed me to free myself better to attend to the boiler. But if I have water level control I could just stuff the firebox and be in decent shape for quite a while.

I have seen the Southworth pumps, they look more the correct size but I don't have the budget for it.
