Hi,my name is Lucian and I need help about motor and boiler to make a kayak steam boat.
I will put pictures..and I have some questions.
I'm thinking to use air compressor engines to transform them to steam..but which one?
The main problem is the boiler...expensive,not so easy to find..but if you can tell me what specs must
have one..
Thank for any help.

Re: Steam boat project
Welcome Lucian. The information you require will no doubt be forthcoming, this is a very knowledgeable forum. Some further information on your hull might help a little, such as how long. Driving a canoe hull is easier than some other hull forms.
Retirement is about doing what floats your boat!

Re: Steam boat project
Hi,it's not mine yet but I like it very much and I want to buy it.Even if I want so much to have it with steam this year will not be possible I think..but I want this summer to go all Danube from Germany to Black Sea in Romania, my country..about 2600 km..thinking to use outboard 3 HP engine...and to make steam boat to enjoy for lakes and rivers ..
I like this one cause it looks like old boats and the cover for raining it's very for this long trip.

Re: Steam boat project
The canoe you are thinking of purchasing is indeed very nice! I would guess a 3 HP outboard would be much more power than you would need, about 1/4 HP would be OK.
In addition to the SBA internet site, another steam canoe, on Radow Rainer's Steamboat page is interesting, "Fulton's Folly"
http://www.steamboating.de/steamboat/st ... ect=update
Also look up the "Steam Scanoe" on this site, a plastic square stern canoe, with inboard/outboard steam drive.

Hi Lucian,
an other steam canoe of a friend you can find here.
The engine is a double-acting single with 38 mm bore and 38 mm stroke.
The boiler is a smoketube with dry firebox, 133 mm diameter and 300 mm high of the pressure vessel, there are 31 smoketubes 12 x 1 mm in.

Re: Steam boat project
Welcome Lucian
The canoe link suggested by Dietrich is excellent but you may also like to look up Taniwha on the SBA's steam boat register. Mike Robinson, who built Taniwha, puts the steam plant in the boot of his car and the canoe on the roof when going places. He is an excellent engineer and his plant would be a good one to copy. It is a monocoil boiler that runs on bottled gas.
Why not join the SBA and get in touch with him for more advice.
Regards
Pete
