Hello from Ohio
Hi my name is Dan Buergel, and I have been reading as a guest on the forum for a while now. I never had a real interest or thought about steam until my Dad, Larry Buergel purchased engine plans from Reliable. Now my Dad is a metallurgical engineer, and he works at a stainless steel foundry. I am starting my third year at The Ohio State University for material science and engineering (metallurgy).
So needless to say our plans are to make our own patterns, cast and machine the steam engine. I have drawn up the steam engine on Solidworks and I am in the process of making the patterns. Ideally we want to construct everything except the boiler. We think we have a hull design picked. Around a year ago we purchased plans from Kelly Anderson for his reciproca boat design. I will probably start a build thread with pictures of our progress.

Dano,
Very cool. I'm in Ohio - Akron area. I'm making a 24' tri-hull aluminum pontoon steamboat.
The folks on this forum are great. Generally interested in what you have to share and offer pointers, the technical details, or just sage steam boating advice and experience.
Welcome.

Hi cyber badger,
I am located in the Columbus area, I saw your thread regarding your steam pontoon boat. It looks good. In terms of actual steaming knowledge, I am definitely still learning. I will add some more pictures over the next couple of days.

Re: Hello from Ohio
I posted above the process for the piston patterns. The stock is segmented pieces of mahogany.

Thanks Tahoesteam, this is a cool site to be part of.

Above is the pattern for the high pressure cylinder head used on the Reliable triple, (we aren't making it right away, but I thought it would be fun to assembly it and make patterns.) the pattern is made from tooling board. It is a more convenient to use than mahogany, but it costs more, and does not look as visually appealing.
