Hi from another newbie from St. Paul Minnesota! I plan on building a steam launch in the next few years but first I have a copy of the "Steamboats & Modern Steam Launches" that I am currently devouring and I am looking to find some steam operators/captains in the Minnesota area to hang out with and possibly learn from. Are there any clubs or owners/builders groups in the MN area? Thanks! -Mike

Welcome to the group Mike,
a very interesting boiler is the blackstaffe boiler. You can find the article "November - December 1963" page 17 - 20.
The idea for my LOCKENWICKLER i've got also from the book

Thanks for the welcome guys!
Dietrich, that's an amazing boiler!
Wesley, I've watched pretty much all your videos of the Wayward Bell. What a great looking boat!
Ron, I used to live in Dearborn MI. What part of the state are you in?

Thanks, but ALL the credit goes to William Charles Grosjean, the boat's original owner/designer/builder.
I am just the caretaker.

Yeah, I've been searching the "inter-webs" and it seems like there's some good pockets of steam launch owners on the west coast and east coast but I have yet to discover anything in the Minnesota area. You would think that we would have a few due to the number of small lakes here.
Anybody know of a good directory that might have info on groups or owners in my area?
Thanks!

About five minutes from Dearborn. We used to do tooling for some of the auto plants over there ( The Rouge). Not anymore, not much work from the autos, and what there is, is dam hard to get. We've moved on and happy we did so.

Ron, yep, my dad was an engineer for Ford and took the buyout a few years back before things got bad. Needless to say it was a smart move. It's going to be a few years before Ford bounces back. Not sure what's gonna happen with GM or Chrysler... Hopefully the economy there will attract new and more diverse industry to the area!
