Re: Whistle!

Thank you for your advice, cyberbadger. First of all, I'll make a cutaway drawing of the whistle: 1. I've got to verify if the thickness of the steam pressured parts is suitable for a MAWP of 10 bars / 145 PSI. 2. Then, if possible, I've got to determine how to place a stuffing gland on the valve s...

Re: Whistle!

I have seen and repaired a few whistles similar to this one. Typically , but not always, a whistle that has a lever like this on was used on a horse drawn fire pumper.

Re: Tiny Power M Twin Build

Well I "HAD" some really good photos od boring the eccentric straps but somehow I lost all the photos on my memory stick. So I retook a couple. The eccentrics are now inside the straps and turning. the other photo is of the HSS tools that I used one is to cut the groove .189 wide and the other is to...

Re: Tiny Power M Twin Build

Finished up splitting the eccentric straps today. Squared up the strap in the vice then milled the top and the tops of the bolt boss. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll14/FrankRathmell/Tiny%20Power%20M%20Twin/DSC05148_zpswuqsrbub.jpg Then found my edges and made the offsets to drill and ream the ...

Re: Tiny Power M Twin Build

Turned the eccentric straps down to thickness on the lathe and then went to work on the mill. I did not take any setup photos but I will take some on the next three straps. I experienced some real frustration "finding" the finished piece within the casting. Either the mold collapsed a bit on the edg...

Re: Valve Train Identification

From a practical standpoint, using spur gears to drive the eccentrics might get pretty noisy at speed. Slide valves can have pretty significant forces; piston valves of course don't. Note that this sort of gear is not useful for adjusting the cut-off, only for providing forward and reverse; it's ak...

I'm thinking it might be the throttle .

Valve Train Identification

Can some one name this style of valve train. I think I understand how it works . The reversing lever rotates the eccentric shaft and eccentrics but the gears stay engaged with the drive gear on the crank. This is a model engine with 9mm bore x 12mm stroke. Just wonder ing what its called and if it w...

Re: Tiny Power M Twin Build

Well todays shop time came to a close way too quickly. But! I managed to set up and drill and tap all the set screw holes in the eccentrics. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll14/FrankRathmell/Tiny%20Power%20M%20Twin/DSC05129_zpsaemnimbm.jpg http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll14/FrankRathmell/Ti...
